On the body of Caesar

Most esteemed senators, my fellow citizens and countrymen;
I come before you to discuss, as praetor designate--designated for next year by our dear Caesar himself--the matter of his body. Accursed traitors, serpents as they are, have struck down my beloved commander in the midst of his just and legal rule.
Having fought for him many times in Gaul, I stand here today to tell you that our republic could not have asked for a more honorable and upright leader in these troubled times.
I am bound by my oaths, my loyalty, and my sacred honor to defend the body--and the memory--of the man who brought peace to my beloved Rome and its citizens. I am also bound to strike down his assassins, who struck at him from behind the veil of conspiracy and treachery. But let us not speak of these men now.
Let a most glorious funeral be held, to honor Caesar in such a way that his memory be held dear by all True Citizens forevermore.
Ave Caesar
